Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir highlighted that Türkiye has entered a new phase in the field of space science and technologies.

Kacir stated during a press conference on the “New Space Mission and Science Mission” that over the last 22 years, Türkiye has prioritized its most significant investments in human resources, enhancing its research and development and innovation infrastructure.

“Türkiye has reached a position where it can develop, produce and test its satellites,” he stated.

He stressed that Türkiye can capture images from “any location worldwide” with Imece, the first Turkish observation satellite with sub-meter resolution.

The minister declared that TURKSAT 6A, our domestic and national communication satellite, will be launched into space on July 8, 2024.

“By launching TURKSAT 6A, Türkiye will join the exclusive group of 11 countries that can create and manufacture communication satellites,” he stated.

The minister also announced that Virgin Galactic’s Spaceport facility in New Mexico, the U.S., will host Atasever’s suborbital research flight on June 8, 2024.

He said that astronaut Tuva Cihangir Atasever’s experiments in various fields will significantly contribute to our scientists’ research.
