Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah convened in Ankara on Tuesday, addressing Israel’s recent attacks on Gaza and exploring avenues to enhance bilateral relations on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

During the meeting at the presidential complex, President Erdogan emphasized the significance of Kuwait’s stance against Israeli oppression, noting that such solidarity strengthens the Palestinian cause. He reiterated Turkey’s longstanding efforts towards establishing a lasting cease-fire since the onset of the conflict in October.

President Erdogan advocated for unified action within the Islamic world to establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem, based on the 1967 borders.

In addition to discussions on Gaza, the leaders delved into various aspects of bilateral cooperation, spanning from defense industry collaboration to infrastructure projects like the Development Road initiative. Emphasis was placed on revitalizing the Joint Economic Commission Mechanism between Turkey and Kuwait to foster mutual investments and boost trade volume.

The leaders also explored avenues for cooperation in diplomacy, healthcare, culture, tourism, and education. President Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey’s unwavering support for Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security, pledging to maintain robust communication at all levels.

Highlighting the importance of cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Organization of Turkic States, President Erdogan underscored Kuwait’s pivotal role in facilitating collaboration and opening new opportunities for joint endeavors.

Following the discussions, Turkey and Kuwait signed six cooperation agreements in a ceremony, symbolizing a commitment to deepen ties across various sectors. President Erdogan honored Emir Sheikh Meshal with the Order of State medal in recognition of his contributions, particularly since assuming office in December. (ILKHA)
