Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security is set to host the first meeting of the 2025 Minimum Wage Commission on Dec. 10.
The commission comprises five representatives each from the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Turk-Is), representing workers, and the Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TISK), representing employers, along with government officials.
The negotiations are expected to continue through December, with four meetings planned to finalize the 2025 minimum wage.
How much will minimum wage increase?
With inflation accelerating in recent years, minimum wage increases have been significant. Despite substantial decreases in inflation this year, wage negotiations are taking place amid concerns about both projected and past inflation rates.
Projected adjustments based on expected inflation are estimated to be between 20% and 25%, despite retrospective adjustments for past inflation could result in a 45% increase; however, economists and international institutions warn that such a raise could hinder efforts to control inflation.
In 2024, the minimum wage was raised by 49%, bringing it to ₺17,002 ($490.21), without an additional increase in July.
