Work is underway to open a route from Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia, but there is also an alternative option through the territory of Iran, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu told Hurriyet daily.

“Work is being carried out along the route passing through Armenia; its length is 43 kilometers. But if there are problems on the Armenian side, Azerbaijan has ties also with Iran regarding the possibility of passing the corridor through Iranian territory,” Uraloglu noted.

According to him, both options are being considered now.

When asked about the phase of this construction, the Turkish official said that the Azerbaijani side continues the respective construction work in its territory. He added that a tender was announced for the construction of the Nakhichevan road from Turkey.
