It is time for golf’s fifth major.
The PGA Tour is at its headquarters this week in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
All the best players on the PGA Tour are in the field for the tour’s flagship event. Although, defending champion Cam Smith is not in the field as he defected for the other tour.
There are still plenty of stars to bet on and bettors have been placing their money all over the field.
Scottie Scheffler is the most popular bet after a fourth-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The world’s No. 2 is getting 8.6% of the bets and accounts for 9.9% of the handle. He has gone from +1600 to +1000 at BetMGM, but is not one of this week’s biggest liabilities.
The biggest liability for BetMGM is Max Homa. He opened at +4000 and has shot all the way down to +1800. He is getting 6.6% of the tickets and 7.7% of the money.
Rory McIlroy is the third-major liability for BetMGM as he’s getting the second-most bets at 7.9% and accounts for the biggest chunk of the handle at 11.8%.
McIlroy and Scheffler both have a chance to surpass Jon Rahm for the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Speaking of Rahm, he’s the favorite for THE PLAYERS at +1000. He’s also been a popular pick with 7.8% of the bets and 8.5% of the money.
Justin Thomas (+1800), Jordan Spieth (+3300) and Collin Morikawa (+2500) are a couple of other popular bets.
There aren’t many long shots getting interest from bettors. Sahith Theegala (+6600), Rickie Fowler (+5500) and Corey Conners (+6000) are a few getting some interest.
