NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Platte River Fitness Series hosts annual Turkey Trot 5K and Mile run, bringing together families and friends for a fun Thanksgiving activity.
This year marked the 14th year of the event, which drew around 280 runners and benefited the North Platte Catholic Schools.
Additionally, a shoe drive was held, encouraging runners to donate new or used shoes to support families in developing countries.
“We have a new thing this year its called Sneakers4Good and we turn in used sneakers to a company and we send them to various places and they give us donations that we turn into scholarships for runners,” said Race Director Tim O’Neill.
The trot has become a beloved event for many families during the holiday season.
“It’s great to see people together and it’s a unique race to reconnect and celebrate Thanksgiving,” said O’Neill.
