THE PREDICTION
This is a huge opportunity for world number 87 Madison Brengle to make a rare foray into the third round at a Masters event after she ousted Laura Siegemund in impressive straight sets on Thursday. The 32-year-old is often overpowered by players inside the top 50 on tour but world number 26 Martina Trevisan is one of the more ‘specialist’ clay-courters out there. The slow conditions in Indian Wells could actually suit the Italian in this first meeting with Brengle but it is very rare that Trevisan would be picked as favourite to win any match on a hardcourt. The 29-year-old grabbed her best result on the surface with an incredible effort against Maria Sakkari at the United Cup back in January but since then she has gathered a five-match losing streak. Trevisan should be a threat on the incoming clay season but take Brengle to earn at least a set here as the likelier of two quite unlikely third rounders.
