THIS grandad has started smiling again after getting a new set of £7k “Turkey teeth” – his pals have said he looks 10 years younger.
Paul Pilkington, 70, avoided smiling for years in fear of showing his rotting teeth, caused by 50 years of smoking.
But he decided he had had enough – so replaced them with a new set of implants in Turkey.
The retired grandfather-of-18 from Bolton was left with several missing and rotting teeth, even after quitting smoking.
So he headed to Istanbul last November for a full set, racking up an eye-watering bill of £7,000, the Manchester Evening News reported.
Paul said: “I worked in entertainment all my life and was always self-conscious being in front of people every day. I never used to smile properly because I didn’t want people to see my teeth.
“I also had some which were loose and it was painful to chew on them. But now I can’t stop grinning and I don’t have to worry about any of that any more.”
Paul made the brave decision after his wife Mandy died in September 2020 from a heart attack.
He said: “She would have been kicking me up the backside telling me to do something with my life if I wasn’t happy.”
He had all his teeth removed and a full set of top and bottom dental implants put in.
He got temporary dentures and was sent back to his home in Wales before the next stage.
In February, he had the implant crowns – the artificial teeth – anchored into the implants.
But for the second visit, he used a different clinic in Izmir as he wasn’t happy with the initial procedure.
Paul said: “I had the transformation done and this time they made sure they were an absolutely perfect fit with no pain. When I looked in the mirror and saw them, I just felt brilliant.
The transformation was unbelievable – I couldn’t believe it.
Paul said he’s been raking in the compliments ever since.
His friend said it’s made him look 10 years younger – he is over the moon with the transformation.
It comes as some were not so lucky with their Turkey teeth operations.
This woman’s smile was so badly wrecked by a “Turkey teeth” treatment that afterwards a despairing NHS dentist got down on the floor and said she would pray for her recovery.
Plus, a couple who splashed £4,000 on Turkey teeth say they’re in agony and haven’t been able to drink anything hot for five months.
