The Peoria High basketball team pulled off a huge upset Friday night, defeating one of the top teams in the state.
Leshawn Stowers scored 39 points to lead Peoria High to a 58-56 overtime win over Bolingbrook, ranked No. 1 in the Chicago Sun-Times Super 25.
The Lions, No. 3 in the area power rankings, advance to the 7:30 p.m. championship game Saturday at the Decatur Turkey Tournament against either rival Peoria Manual or Decatur MacArthur, who are meeting in the second semifinal.

“Extremely proud of our guys,” Peoria High assistant Ryan McElmurry posted on X,com. “Being down as much as 9 in the second half. Never wavered and found a way to secure a huge win!”
Stowers, a 6-foot-5 senior guard, is headed to Miami (Ohio) and is among multiple Division-I prospects around Peoria with Bradley-bound duo of Dietrich Richardson of Manual and Matthew Zobrist of Metamora.
Bolingbrook is led by 6-7 Valparaiso recruit JT Pettigrew and 6-2 super sophomore Davion Thompson.
