Dozens of residents in sneakers gathered at River Park Sunday morning for a fun, fall run as part of Lompoc’s annual Turkey Trot event that each year is held days ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Lompoc Recreation Division hosted two races, a 1-mile Children’s Turkey Dash for runners 5 to 13 years of age, and a 3-mile Turkey Trot Fun Run for kids above age 13 and adults.
The group of nine youths set off first around the park’s woodsy fitness trail at 9 a.m., minutes before the older group comprised of 18 participants began their race at 9:30 a.m.
A “first-place overall” female and male winner was named in each race and awarded a turkey. Second- place and third-place finishers received pies.
Medals were also given to first- and second-place finishers in each race.
